Jemima revamped in lovely printed viscose/rayon

The mid- 1930s style Jemima dress from one of my past 1930s dress collections in striking printed black viscose/rayon that I made for the lovely Cathrine. It features a geometric art deco style cut panelling down the front of the skirt and also on the front of the bodice with mirroring large rust coloured vintage bakelite buttons. The gathered 2/3 length sleeves , the bow and large collar fastening with an eye and hook also bring something very typically thirties to this darling piece. The belt also has a vintage buckle.

My homage to the 1930s Macclesfield stripe dress

I got inspired to remake this beautiful striped dress while visiting the Macclesfield Silk Museum. Here the mid-1930s style inspired lovely in yellow, dark grey and white rayon plays with the horizontal and vertical placing of the striped fabric pieces creating a fantastic art deco style design very popular in the era. The bodice has an interesting jabot type insert down the front with a collar and with the nice detail of a trio of bakelite buttons and pin tucks at the shoulders. The sleeves also have the familiar contrast of horizontal and vertical and the button detailing. The top stitched centre seam on the skirt features a kick pleat. Fastens with snap fasteners at the side.

Early 1970s style hostess dress

This beautiful early 1970s Grecian style hostess dress in peach silk chiffon and silk satin has the lovely floaty effect with the long and asymmetrically cut chiffon butterfly sleeves and the low cut neckline both front and back emphasising the empire style cut along the bust line with a silver metallic braid trim and the collar. It fastens with a zip at the back. Perfect for those summer garden parties.

Late 1960s style sequin dress

Here I present a darling late 1960s inspired shift dress in aqua sequin and silk satin fabric. With darts both on the front and back to create a more A-line silhouette.The wide metallic silver braid trimming adorns the typically 1960s round collar and the hems of the 3/4 length sleeves. It fastens with a zip at the back.

Early 1930s Art Deco style jumper

Here’s a rather unusual early 1930s inspired jumper in wool knit fabric with a fantastic multicoloured zigzag pattern and a very Art Deco feel to it with its bias cut panelling, asymmetric at the front, including the collar, and the very popular diagonal cut on striped fabrics with centre seam at the back. Two vintage bakelite buttons crown this lovely creation at the front. The belt also features a vintage bakelite buckle.

My homage to Cyd Charisse in “Bandwagon”

Here I present my homage to Cyd Charisse in “Bandwagon”, and the beautiful dress she wore in the film, an early 1950s style cocktail dress in beautiful emerald silk dupion with corded lace and shimmery net tulle overlay on the bodice and tulle overlay on the skirt. The sweetheart neckline features a lovely and very flattering illusion detail in tulle covering the bodice on the front and back. It also has 3/4 length sleeves and ballet length skirt that were very popular in the era. Fastens with a zipper at the back.

A little treat I made for myself: an early 1930s inspired stripey dress

This gorgeous early 1930s style number in white and navy viscose rayon was just something I had to try. Being a big fan of stripey and check fabrics cut in contrasting panels, this clearly represents the popular cuts of the era. Very geometric art deco in style featuring a large collar, yet another classic of the 1930s, a v-shaped insert on the bodice , both front and back and the triangular pockets. It also has vintage bakelite buttons and buckle in navy.
