The mid-1930s style darlings

Here I present a couple of designs with variations from a previous one I made a couple of years ago. “Ruth” and “Eleanor” are made in wool knit lace fabric with unusual large collar and triple decorative vintage buttons. The puff sleeves also feature buttons as do the waistband of the blouse. Hook and eye closure at the back.

“Alma” and “Edna” are bias cut cotton blouses, very popular in the 1930s, with short sleeves featuring geometric cuffs and a pair of vintage buttons. The collar has a central flap, secured by a vintage button, and the belt has a vintage bakelite buckle. Hook and eye closure at the back of the round collar. They also have a little side pocket with a button and darts down the front of the blouse.

“Violet” is a mid- 1930s style blouse in viscose rayon, in the same style as “Alma” and “Edna” but without the side pocket. The cuffs, collar flap and the little detail in the belt in light cream viscose create an interesting contrast to the burgundy of the blouse. Vintage buttons adorn the cuffs and collar flap. The belt also features a vintage buckle.

Early 1930s Art Deco style jumper

Here’s a rather unusual early 1930s inspired jumper in wool knit fabric with a fantastic multicoloured zigzag pattern and a very Art Deco feel to it with its bias cut panelling, asymmetric at the front, including the collar, and the very popular diagonal cut on striped fabrics with centre seam at the back. Two vintage bakelite buttons crown this lovely creation at the front. The belt also features a vintage bakelite buckle.

Mid- 1930s style wool lace knit fabric blouse

This beautiful chocolate brown mid-1930s inspired blouse in delicate wool lace knit fabric has got all the elements of the quirky style of the era with its fun large jester style collar, puff sleeves, small vintage hand painted wooden buttons down the front for fastening and the belt with vintage buckle. The perfect separate to go with your 1930s skirt!

Early- mid 1930s style crochet knit fabric jumper and skirt set

This delightful mid- 1930s style jumper had already seen the light of day earlier with butterscotch coloured bakelite buttons, and here revived with rusty red coloured ones and a matching early 1930s style panelled skirt with buttons on the kick pleats down the front and the back, which makes this set perfect for one of those early autumnal strolls. The skirt fastens with snap fasteners at the side.

Here comes a mid-1930s inspired crochet knit fabric blouse

I rarely work with knit fabrics but just wanted to give it a try and this sweet mid- 1930s style cinnamon coloured cotton crochet knit fabric blouse was the result.

With its unusual eye catching large geometric collar embellished by contrasting 1930s bakelite buttons, puff sleeves and waist band sitting just on the upper hips, also with vintage buttons is the ultimate and perfect separate to complete your 1930s look. It has hook and eye closure at the back of neck.

Early 1930s style cotton jersey jumper with matching beret

Here’s my shot at early 1930s style knitwear in form of this olive/navy/beige striped ribbed cotton jersey jumper and matching beret. What makes this little number a homage to the Art Deco style are the contrasting panels cut on bias forming striking geometric formations. Stripes and plaids cut diagonally this way were very popular at the time. It also features long narrow kimono sleeves and belt with original vintage buckle.
